Nasa chief scientist expects to find alien life within 20 years

Finding Alien LIfe

A NASA scientist says we’re just a couple of years away from having  proof of extraterrestrial life.

On Tuesday, April 7, NASA chief scientist Ellen Stofan spoke on a panel about water within the universe. Water is an important ingredient for life as we all know it. So astrobiologists usually focus the search for extraterrestrial life on worlds where water is present.

Throughout the discussion, Stofan predicts, “I feel we’re going to have strong indications of life beyond Earth inside a decade, and I feel we’re going to have definitive proof inside twenty to thirty years.”

Former astronaut John Grunsfeld agrees with Stofan, stating, “I feel we’re one era away in our solar system, whether or not it’s on an icy moon or on Mars, and one technology [away] on a planet round a close-by star.”

Stofan explains, “We all know the place to look. We all know the way to look.” She continues, “Typically we now have the expertise, and we’re on a path to implementing it. And so I believe we’re undoubtedly on the right road to finding extraterrestrial life.”
